Dance With Me

Dancing is fun and exciting! It actually helps to boost your self-esteem and it has a positive effect in our daily lives. When you dance you smile more, you start to laugh more, and you start to socialize more with others, especially when there is good music playing in the background. So dancing can be your cure for happiness if you let it! Dancing is a way of letting go of your worries. It puts you in a place of serenity; it frees your soul, and it uplifts your mood. Dancing has many health benefits as well. It minimizes stress, reduces depression, weight loss, improves your physical performance, increases your energy, and it helps improve flexibility.

In a research study, when participants danced, happy chemicals called endorphins were released. These chemicals give people feelings of happiness. Endorphins are chemicals (hormones) your body releases when it feels pain or stress. They’re released during pleasurable activities such as exercise, massage, eating, and dancing. People also tend to enjoy themselves more when they are engaged in activities where they are able to express themselves through movement. Previous investigations have suggested that increased physical activity levels can improve psychological and mental health. A research study was conducted on the effects of movement and dance on health-related psychological outcomes. The benefits of movement and dance include increased quality of life while at the same time lowering depression and anxiety.

According to the American Dance Therapy Association, Dance Movement Therapy is “a form of expressive therapy” that “looks at the correlation between movement and emotion.” Dance Movement Therapy is defined by the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration of the individual, for the purpose of improving health and well-being. It is a holistic approach to healing. As a spiritual life coach, I do believe dancing is a form of healing and it can help the healing process as a person gains a sense of control through mastery of movement; it also helps to relieve stress and pain through emotion as well.

I love to dance; it allows me to let go of any negative feelings that I may be holding in that need to be released. For me, it frees me and takes me to my “happy place”. What I most enjoy about dancing is that I can spin around, clap my hands, and move my hips from side to side! It’s important to remember dancing is just one way to change your mood, and it contributes to positive feelings. It can bring peace and happiness in your life. So now that you know all this wonderful information about dancing, I think it’s time that you take my hand and let’s dance!
